Description
This scrap metal hand sculpture turns workshop offcuts and mechanical parts into a striking, life-sized piece of industrial art. The hand is built around a collection of reclaimed fasteners, springs, bearings and other steel components, with its fingers wrapped firmly around a spanner.
Every angle reveals something different. Welds, threads and worn surfaces are deliberately left visible, giving the sculpture the honest character of the materials it came from.
A quiet message beneath the base
Tucked beneath the base plate are two 2p coins and two 1p coins. They form a subtle nod to the idea of skilled trades sometimes being paid pennies for the knowledge, time and hard work involved.
Made to stand out
This one-off piece would look at home on a mechanic’s workbench, beside a toolbox, in a garage reception or as a talking point on a shelf or desk. It is the exact sculpture shown in the photographs. Similar hands may be made in future, but the same combination of parts and details will not be repeated.
Finish and care
The sculpture has been clear lacquered to preserve its natural steel appearance and is intended for indoor display. As with any clear-coated steel artwork, prolonged exposure to damp conditions may eventually cause rust.
