I love finding an old metal trunk. I always like to think about what its been through during its life. Because of this I will always try and keep its patina as original as possible.

This build was a tricky one, Id planned on using the legs of an old stool but was unsure how to position the trunk on top. After a lot of pondering and a couple of cups of coffee I decided to seat it on its side to give it an appearance of a little cabinet.

After managing to mount it successfully, there was a lot of flex in the case that made the whole thing very wobbly.  To solve this I cut out a piece of scaffolding board and sanded to fit, this has been screwed into the base of the trunk. This solved the problem immediately and gave it a simple little detail that I had never thought about.

The stool legs have been painted with a matt black whilst the trunk its self had a very light sanding on the inside to remove any surface rust. I then coated it in lacquer to protect its patina and finish the build.

This would make a great little cabinet for the corner of a bathroom or porch area.
